What to Do

Along the banks of the Dolores River, the Dunton Hot Springs is a unique destination where roughing it in hand-hewn mining-era log cabins coincides with luxury spa treatments, thermal baths, fine organic dining, and plenty of adventurous outdoor activities, including hiking in the San Juans, rafting on the Upper and Lower San Miguel, fly fishing on the West Fork of the Dolores, and horseback Riding in the high Rockies.

The hot springs are in five locations – inside the restored 19th-century Bathhouse, under the sparkling stars, in the pool outside the Bathhouse, in the pool behind the Dunton Store cabin, and inside the Well House cabin. The springs have incredible health benefits, such as improving circulation, converting blood sugar to energy, and promoting healthy skin, so definitely plan to get a lot of soaking time. But don’t forget that Dunton also has its own vineyard, library, and saloon with wagon wheel chandeliers. In addition, the wilderness surrounding the log cabins is perfect for hiking on the Geyser Spring Trail to the state’s only geyser, mountain biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding. Being right along the river allows great access to fly fishing and rafting. In the winter, Dunton’s activities include skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, riding in a sleigh, dog sledding, and even heli-ski excursions. And if you want to stay indoors, you can hand out at the River Camp’s Farm House, enjoying hot chocolate and board games.

The town’s old Pony Express stop hides the massage and yoga facilities. The spa offers 75-minute long services such as hot stone massages, deep tissue, sports massages, couples massages, facials, and 60-minute long meditation & yoga sessions. The spa offers massages, facials, mud baths, reflexology, and yoga to relax and rejuvenate you. Along with the hot springs, you will feel like a new person at the end of your stay.

What to Eat & Drink

Dining is in the old saloon, where you eat at a long communal table with open kitchen views. You can watch the chef make local farm-to-table delicacies, and he occasionally lets some guests help him make the meal. Breakfast is not on a timetable, so you can mosey to the saloon whenever you need your coffee pick-me-up and order your favorites. Lunch is casual; you can eat in the saloon or take a picnic lunch on your outdoor adventure. Dinner is more refined with wine pairings from the resort’s vineyard and gourmet dishes topped with sharing your stories with your new friends.

Room Guide

Dunton Hot Springs has 13 unique luxury accommodations surrounded by picturesque views of the mountains. The accommodations are close to all other buildings on the resort, including the saloon and bathhouse. Adding to the romanticism of a ghost town, a lovely waterfall at the end of town completed the picture.

Log Cabins: The log cabins are hand-built and offer fantastic views of the mountains and the surrounding meadows. Each cabin has high-speed wireless internet access. The cabins are unique in size and with their amenities. Most of the smaller cabins have a king bed, wood burning stoves, with some with a secluded outdoor shower or a private deck overlooking the river. The larger ones have lofts or two floors with king beds, en-suite bathrooms, queen or bunk beds, and multiple bathrooms.

Specialty Cabins: The Potter House is the largest, with three king bedrooms, one queen, and 1 with two twin beds; the primary king suite has a fireplace, and the house has its own kitchen and living area. The special cabin to reserve is the Well House which has a private hot spring and cold plunge, making this the most romantic cabin on the property.
