Giving you the whole enchilada on day one

Jamie Lee

happypuzzleWelcome to my “down and dirty” Good Mood Gig Campaign blog. I’m so happy you decided to stop by.

I’ll be blogging here for the next thirty days – until the end of the phase one voting for the SAM-e Good Mood Gig Talent Search. I hope you’ll stick around to share the journey, and – even better – the conversation.

In this very first post,  I’d like to share my number one, favorite way of putting myself in a good mood. Are you ready? Here it is:

Do something to put someone else in a good mood.

Yep. That’s it. Some people call this “paying it forward,” a term made popular in the 2000 movie of a similiar name. I still haven’t seen the movie, but I love the concept of doing something nice for someone for no reason. I can be in the foulest mood, but if I have the chance to do something nice for someone (and I take that chance), my mood gets turned around 100% of the time.

Try it. You don’t have to make any sweeping gestures. Holding a door open, offering a stranger exact change for their purchase at the grocery store, paying the toll of the person in the car behind you, just smiling … each of these small good deeds can change someone’s day in potentially big ways.

The world is an amazingly connected place – especially now in the world of Web 2.0 where everything we do and say can – if we choose – be captured, archived, and shared across the internet. More than ever, the words of one of my favorite sayings rings true:

All things by immortal power,
Near or far,
Hiddenly
To each other linkèd are,
That thou canst not stir a flower
Without troubling of a star;

                                   – William Blake

Lend a hand or a smile, and you’ll discover that you can stir your own mood as well as someone else’s … and maybe even a star or two.

    Jamie,
I love the concept of “paying it forward.” There’s something about doing a good deed without expecting anything in return. It’s a great reminder to put others before ourselves. Especially when your reward is feeling all warm and fuzzy inside ; )

Looking forward to seeing what you will share over the next 29 days!

@Cynthia – It is a beautiful quote, isn’t it? Makes you feel small and big all at the same time. Maybe a theme for a photo series?? :)
